Campers in Alabama first gathered in 1941 at Troy State Teachers College in Troy, with Glenn Clark as the principal speaker, then at Livingston in 1942 and Cook Springs in 1943. Walter Beall of Andalusia, who introduced the South to the Camps Farthest Out, chaired all three. The Second World War broke those camps up, and campers began again in August 1953 at Athens College in Athens.
From 1970 campers gathered in June at Camp Sumatanga, near Gallant. The recordings run from 1954 to 2016 and include John Hobbs, Al Durrance, Bill Reed, Tommy Tyson, Kay Reed, Norman Elliott and Rick Sizemore, among many others.

At the 1958 Alabama CFO, Norman Elliott recalled a storm that cut the lights during one of his own talks. It left him feeling suddenly free of his body. He used the moment to describe Jesus as God's transformer, stepping down a power too vast for any house to hold.
Wrestling Till the Break of Day

Daily left the next morning with ten dollars and a burlap suit, resolved only to "walk in love by faith."

He traces it from his own solitary confinement to a gunman stopped by the words "God is love" painted on a boulder, and to a prison chaplain who climbed to the pulpit with nothing to say, then stepped down to lay hands on the men who knelt.
