Colorado Summer CFO:
190 messages from 30 gatherings, 1956 to 1999.
A prayer group first met on February 15, 1941, and in July 1942 about 80 people gathered at Geneva Glen, west of Denver, for a retreat led by Glenn Clark and Glenn Harding. From that retreat grew the first full week of camp, July 18 to 25, 1943, also at Geneva Glen.
Campers gathered at the YMCA camp at Estes Park from 1945 to 1969 and at Covenant Heights, also in Estes Park, from 1970, and the name Colorado Summer came in 1987. The recordings run from 1956 to 1999 and include Estelle Carver, Homer Martin, Ross Creighton, Norman Elliott and Norman Renshaw, among many others.

Called to the Fellowship of Followership
by Willard Ireland · July 2, 1966
Willard Ireland traces Jesus's three calls, "come unto me," "come, follow me," and "come, abide with me," in a message given at the 1966 Colorado Summer CFO. He then uses the pledge a young princess made on her twenty-first birthday, to "venture beyond the safeties of the past," to describe what following Jesus costs.

The Man Who Called Me a Little Witch
by Ruth Robison · July 1969
A man who claimed the gift of discernment told Ruth Robison he had decided that morning she was "nothing but a little witch," and by the end of their talk he took it back. At the 1969 Colorado Summer CFO she warns that a spiritual gift is given to find God at work in people rather than evil, and that a new insight is to be obeyed at once.

What In Your Life Takes Jesus To Explain It?
One man knew the psalm and the other knew the shepherd, and Cliff Richmond presses the 1971 Colorado Summer CFO to say which describes them. He recalls Glenn Clark sitting undisturbed through clacking latecomers at the founding camp, a boy drowned at Koronis whose memorial went to Japan as goats, and a man converted because his wife became easier to live with.

She asks campers to follow him every step of his earthly journey.

A Bell Is No Bell Until You Ring It
by Reginald (Reg) Goff · June 27, 1974
Speaking to the Colorado Summer CFO in 1974, Reg Goff insists that God is love rather than merely has love, and unpacks his own hard-won definition of it as "the desire to bless with everything you have."
by Reginald (Reg) Goff · June 29, 1974
Reg Goff says praying for an unbelieving husband or child accomplishes little on its own, and that the real work is becoming the person through whom they are convinced someone loves them. From the Colorado Summer CFO in 1974.
Before She Was Born, Jesus Asked Her to Come to Earth
by Agnes Sanford · June 1974
Agnes Sanford describes a vision in which Jesus asked her, before she was born, whether she was willing to come to earth for a hard work of healing. She then retells Gethsemane as Christ absorbing the grief of all humanity, in a talk to the Colorado Summer CFO in 1974.

My Biggest Patient Is the San Andreas Fault
by Agnes Sanford · June 1974
Agnes Sanford prays here for places rather than for people, daily over the San Andreas Fault, which she calls her biggest patient, and for six days at Notre Dame while war ran in the Near East. She ends by asking her hearers each to take one college quietly into their prayers. The talk comes from the 1974 Colorado Summer CFO.

She Commanded the Wind to Turn Around
by Agnes Sanford · June 1974
At the Colorado Summer CFO in 1974, Agnes Sanford tells of standing alone on a shore near a wildfire. She spoke aloud to the wind, asking it to reverse into a fine, damp, misty, rainy wind by morning. She then teaches five short affirmations for training the mind to draw daily on that same authority.

She Filled Empty Chairs With Prayer
by Agnes Sanford · June 1974
Melita was crippled from birth and healed as a child, and she grew up praying over a circle of empty chairs, with someone in need imagined in each. Agnes Sanford tells her story at the Colorado Summer CFO in 1974, then teaches campers to ask God, rather than their own preference, whom to choose for the prayer of faith.
The Roofer Who Brought a Bonsai Tree

Wallow In His Love, The Lord Told Me
In a message at the Colorado Summer CFO in 1977, Evelyn Carter Spencer tells campers that the Lord showed her a vision of her own life as a road, worn with ruts down the middle from years of resisting him. He instructed her to "wallow in his love" as she prepared to leave Pittsburgh and marry in California.

Evelyn Carter Spencer contrasts the written word with the "rhema," God's spoken word for the moment. She recalls waiting for hers before she prayed at the bedside of a comatose Jewish boy. Moses, she notes, tended sheep for forty years after mistaking a need for a call. The talk comes from the Colorado Summer CFO in 1978.
Evelyn Carter Spencer continues a morning session at the Colorado Summer CFO in 1978 by unpacking Colossians 3. She tells campers to let the peace of Christ settle every question like an umpire. God's habit of exposing hidden faults, she says, is like a poker player reading your hold card, the one card no one else can see. She adds a kitchen picture of a slow-simmering stew whose scum must be skimmed before more can be added, likening it to how God works on a life over time.
Grace Is Bread With Butter and Jelly
Evelyn Carter Spencer is reunited at the Colorado Summer CFO in 1978 with her longtime friend Norman Renshaw and his wife Elsie. She compares an unearned gift to a boy who asks his mother for bread and gets it back with butter and jelly on it, and she calls that extra "grace." She preaches from Ephesians on becoming so completely one thing, in mind, will, and emotion, that what a Christian believes finally matches what shows up in daily life.

The Cold Beans Misunderstanding
by Tom Jacobs
Twenty years of cold beans went by before Tom Jacobs learned that his wife had been asking for something other than what he heard, and floor mats as an anniversary present bought him two weeks of silence. Loving people according to their needs rather than our own instincts is the work, he tells the 1990 Colorado Summer CFO, and forgiveness is poured like concrete into set forms.
by Tom Jacobs
Tom Jacobs left a Father's Day shirt in a motel in Greeley, and spent the drive home having his own will broken behind a tractor pulling a wide disc. Psalm 137 is about spiritual dryness, he tells the 1990 Colorado Summer CFO, and the point of the exile is not to hang up the harp while you are in it.

Taking Your Daily Spiritual Vitamins
On the last morning of a Colorado Summer CFO week, Evelyn Carter Spencer urges campers to take spiritual "vitamins" such as victory, the Holy Spirit, and mercy each day. She also recounts choosing to marry a man named Bill, even though he did not match the tall, dark, handsome man she had once pictured.
