Frank Laubach reads out a letter he says came to him from Glenn Clark after his death. He ties the parable of the growing seed to a harvest already arrived, and closes by leading the room in holding up the world, at the 1968 Minnesota Koronis CFO.

Message From Glenn Clark To Me
by Frank Laubach
Transcribed from the original recording; may contain errors.
Isn’t it just wonderful that we have so many young people here? This is simply tremendous. I want to tell you a story that Kevin Lowell told me this week. If he doesn’t mind, I’ll tell you that story. A man loaned his horse, and he said, “When you want this horse to go, you just say, ‘Praise the Lord.’ And if you want the horse to stop, you say, ‘Amen,’ and then he’ll stop.” So this man got on the horse and said, “Praise the Lord.” And the horse started galloping for all of his words. But he came to a precipice. And that man said, “My goodness, I can’t remember what I say to make him stop.” And just before they got up two feet from the precipice, he said, “Amen.” And the horse stopped. And the man was so happy that the horse stopped, and he said, “Praise the Lord.”
More than 35 years. I haven’t found anybody here who knows exactly how many more since I came to this camp the first time. It’s been going, I guess, about since 1930. And a great flood of memories come back to my mind. And I… Ethel Dow was here at that time. And Glenn and Esther Harding were here. And Marian, her name was Clark at that time, Marian Clark, and many others. But I’m tonight going to do something that will astonish you, I think. I got a letter from Glenn Clark. Now, here’s the person through whom it came. I don’t know whether this is authentic or not, as I don’t know enough to know, but it sounds good to me. This letter was written to me by a woman who gets messages from the other side. And her name is Maxine Stolting. She said, “Glenn Clark has wanted to send you a message before you got to the CFO camp, which you will be speaking in this summer. And so I’m enclosing the message that he sent through me.”
Now, I’ll read it to you. It sounds a good deal like Glenn Clark to me, as I used to know him. She said, “Is there a message for Frank Laubach through his friend Glenn Clark?” And Glenn Clark answers, “Oh, indeed there is. I’ve been waiting, not too patiently, praise the saints, of which I’m not yet one, but hear me, hear me, my friend and brother Frank. I do have a message of the most high to communicate to you before you start out to meet the camp. It is good you will be in the field this season, for the harvest is white. Remember the scripture: the kingdom of God is as if a man should cast seed on the ground and sleep and rise night and day until the seed springs up and grows, only God knows how. Frank, you and I, many others whom we could name, have cast much seed upon the planet earth. We have slept and arisen, and slept and arisen, and I confess, have often despaired that so much sleep and so much rising and no evidence of growth, as we waited upon the Lord. But Christ has spoken the truth: the earth, which is created by the Father, bears fruit of herself in perfect order and sequence. That’s exactly like…
“Then Clark used to talk, first the blade and then the ear and last the full corn, which is full of more potential seed to be planted or consumed, none the less for growth, and whatever. Frank, when the fruit is ripe, straightway He putteth forth the sickle, because the harvest has come. Frank, you have this spiritual energy, pressed down and overflowing. Oh yes, I can see you quipping about other uses of the sickle. But, well, that’s what it is, this sickle of the grim reaper is a big joke. He means death; he thinks we needn’t worry about it. Let us have a laugh at that poor old grim reaper. But Frank, there is no nonsense about you being a sickle, a spiritual energy that can bring in the harvest of ripened souls. And soul is the word here, the created image and likeness of God, that’s eternal. I’ve discovered here you can’t really be or even get lost in the kingdom. You can’t really get out of God’s kingdom, for the simple reason the kingdom of heaven is inside of each one of us.
“And it can take, we can take eons trying to find it, looking here and there and everywhere, but right within. In the past, but you always have known, haven’t you, even as an orthodox missionary, that the kingdom of God is within you and is eternal. Yet Frank, the harvest has come, and only such as you can dare call out to those who are ripe and alert, and alert them to their readiness for His divine use here on earth, either to be consumed in the building of Christ’s body on earth or to bear fresh new seeds for the next planting. For Christ said, even as He was explaining to His disciples the kingdom of God, ‘For to him that has will be given; from him who has not, that which he has will be taken away.’ The fruit must not rot on the vine, the cob on the plant. Let this be your message at the camp this summer, for the hour to reap has come.”
Now, the reason I think that’s authentic is because I have felt it so deeply. I’ve just been talking with the associate president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in Minneapolis, George Wilson, today, this morning, and he agreed that the hour is here.
I’ll be talking more about that this week. And I therefore believe, and he does, that this camp, which has seen so many miracles in the past, which has seen history change, can not only be a happy camp filled with joy and expectancy for us, but it can also be a creative camp.
I remember over in the dining room, when Glenn Harding and Esther and I, and I forget who else, were sitting around the cave table, we were all saying this: we need a new word in the world. This word love that we talk about has too many meanings. For one person it means one thing, for another person it means another. What we need is a word that they have in Greek, the Greek language, agape, but we don’t have any in English with all our words. And so we were praying, “Lord, send us a word.” And that word, I guess, dropped in Glenn Harding’s mind first, and then he spoke it, and then we all knew it was the right word. Now, you young people, I hope, have heard that word. If you haven’t, you will this week. The word is Kaihu. It means, “Can I help you?” That’s the real love of Christ. I learned a new definition this week. Love: it is a desire to bless everybody with all you have. And that’s what Kaihu is. If you go around saying, “Can I help you? What can I do for you?” to everybody, that’s the love of Christ. And that’s what I know makes this camp unique. I’ve gotten more, I think, out of the camps than out of anything else in my life, and of all the camps, this one here where you are right now, in Koronis, has meant the most to me, and I think thousands of other people could testify to the same thing. It’s a creative place.
Now be sure to take in everything this week. Everything here is wonderful, don’t miss it if you can help it. But above everything else, let’s expect something. Jesus said, “According to your faith it will be to you.” Don’t doubt. I’ll tell you one thing that might happen this week: when we have our prayer broadcast for the world, we might stop the Vietnam War. It might stop this week. Or if it doesn’t, something else as miraculous as that may take place. We may see this history that has been going down like this, seemingly worse and worse and worse, we may see it turn the corner this week. And that, won’t it be a thrill, that you and you and you and I can be in the camp where we said, we prayed humbly, and God was pleased at that very time to intervene and change the course of history and save our world? I don’t know what it’s going to be, but it’s going to be miraculous this week. So, Glenn is right, it’s a camp of joy, it’s a camp of miracles, it’s a camp of faith, and it’s a camp of love.
Now I hope you’ll do what I’m going to do tonight when you go back to your room. I’ve been trying to learn how to keep the Lord in my mind, especially whenever I need Him. So now every time I close my eyes, I’m trying to remember, this is true, that the Lord Jesus Christ is inside… is you, and you, and you, and all of you. And if you’re in there and you close your eyes, you can talk to the Lord Christ. Try it tonight. Maybe that’ll be the… we should begin this wonderful week that’s just ahead of us, the most wonderful week, I believe, that you and I have ever had in all our lives. That’s what I expect. Let’s expect it all together with Him. Now let’s pray. Thank You for the history of this wonderful camp here. It began about 38 or 40 years ago. Thank You for the miracles that so many of us have seen here. Glenn has seen and I’ve seen. Thank You, eternal Spirit of Christ, for actually appearing so that we see Thee. It might happen to some of us this week, but that doesn’t matter so much. That doesn’t matter. But if we can let Thee use us with our faith and our prayer, just humble people that we are, but willing to be used, that will be wonderful.
And so help every boy and girl and every man and woman here this week go home saying, “Oh, it was wonderful.” Thank You, dear Lord, for You’re here. You were here before we came. You brought us here together. You’re at work. We can’t see You, but You’re at work within us and among us, giving us joy and giving us power and giving us strength and giving us love.
Now, I’d like everybody in this room to lift out your hands like I’m doing right now. Lift them up like this. You may hit somebody else, it won’t matter. Lift them up. Here in our arms, we’re holding up the whole wide world. This big globe. It’s covered with people who are afraid, who hate, who kill, who are discouraged, who are brokenhearted, who are in dismay, or frantic. This world needs me. And so, we offer our humble love and ourselves while we pray for the world, the whole 3,000 million people of us, that a deluge may fall down out of heaven of Thy divine love upon our old world and change it. Wash out the hate and the fear. And bring in the love of Jesus, the kingdom of God. And with our prayer, we offer ourselves; show us how we can help. So help us, God, this week. Amen.
