Norman Grubb argues that healing a leper’s body only produces a better egoist. In his own leprosy work he aims not to heal lepers but to make them healers who carry Jesus to others. He roots this pattern, of the self disappearing before a self-giving self can reappear, in the Beatitudes and in Paul’s account of Abraham as a “blesser.” He brings the message to the camps.
