Tom Walker takes on the phrase people reach for at gravesides, “it is the will of God”, and asks whether a father would really do to his child what disease does. From the Washington CFO in 1988, with Leslie Weatherhead in India and Agnes Sanford recalling the moment she wondered what kind of God she was praying to.
Beginning with Viktor Frankl stripped of everything but his freedom to choose a response, Tom Walker moves from loving God as a companion to recognizing him in the people he sends. Given at the Washington CFO in 1988, the talk turns on the old story of a shopkeeper who waited all day for a visit he had already received three times.
