Ordained as a minister in 1931, Alberta Lunger and her husband Harold co-pastored the Wooster Avenue Church of Christ in Akron, Ohio, from 1933 to 1936. She later served as the interim minister at the First Congregational Church in Tucson, Arizona, for one year. In 1959-60, she was the minister of visitation at Hemphill United Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth. Mrs. Lunger was highly respected as a consultant in spiritual life development and held various roles in Church Women United. She also served on the board of directors for the Fort Worth Prayer Fellowship, Disciplined Order of Christ, and the Fellowship of Reconciliation.
She was an observer at the World Council of Churches ecumenical conferences in Illinois in 1954 and in Switzerland in 1966, and represented the Fellowship of Reconciliation as a delegate at its international assembly in Denmark in 1965. Mrs. Lunger was also one of the founding members of the Suicide Prevention of Tarrant County and served on the boards of the Young Women’s Christian Association, Bethlehem Center, and the Fort Worth Council on Foreign Affairs.
A frequent speaker at religious emphasis programs on college campuses, Mrs. Lunger led numerous prayer institutes and fellowship retreats, including The Camps Farthest Out. She authored church pamphlets and curriculum, making significant contributions to the spiritual community.
