The Chaplain Who Prayed Me Well

A prison chaplain in patched trousers laid hands through the bars and prayed over Starr Daily’s liver, lungs and heart, organ by organ. Daily tells campers at the 1962 Nebraska CFO that the disease was “arrested” that day and turned toward health over the next six months. He also recalls that same chaplain, broken by newspaper headlines naming his daughter with a murdered gangster. In one chapel service the chaplain drew more men forward than years of good preaching had.
